Can a Blog Really Grow the Sewing Community in the UK??

Can a blog really grow the sewing community in the UK?

It’s not something I set out to do.

I just started writing—sharing small moments from the yurt, stories from lessons and retreats, and the kind of sewing that actually fits into real life.

Not perfectly.

Not loud.

Just… steadily.

And the other week, something landed in my inbox that made me stop for a moment and giggle out loud in surprise.

I was featured by the Female Entrepreneur Association as part of their Creator Spotlight ! Yes, little old me!

They shared a little behind-the-scenes look at Stitchscape—how it started, what it’s grown into, and the way I’ve been using my blog.

One line in particular stayed with me:

“Your blog can become the beating heart of your brand.”

And I realised… that’s exactly what I’ve been building.

Not noise. Something steadier.

I haven’t built this through:

posting every day

chasing trends

or trying to be everywhere at once.

Instead, it’s come from:

writing about real moments

sharing stories from the yurt

letting things grow over time

Blog posts like:

a client writing a limerick after her lesson,

reflections from retreats,

small, ordinary sewing moments that actually matter.

Nothing flashy.

But it connects.

Why I’m sharing this (even if you’re not ‘business-minded’)

Now… this might feel like a bit of a shift from my usual sewing posts.

And you’d be right.

But the reason I said yes to sharing this isn’t really about business.

It’s because I genuinely want to see more sewing in the world. And sewing needs equipment, fabric, haberdashery, patterns, classes, sewcials, retreats etc.

More people:

creating things with their hands

building confidence through making

finding a sense of calm

connecting with others

stepping away from that quiet feeling of isolation.

I’ve seen what it does—again and again.

In lessons.

At retreats.

Inside Patchwork Play.

And I know there are so many fabulous ideas sitting quietly with people… that never quite make it out into the world.

If you’ve been thinking about sharing more…

Maybe you’ve got something there too.

An idea.

A spark.

A “maybe one day…”

And it doesn’t have to turn into a full business.

Sometimes it’s just about:

putting something out there

seeing what happens

letting it grow into whatever it wants to become.

A gentle nudge

The Female Entrepreneur Association are running their Ideas to Income Challenge starting on May 5th. I did that challenge last year and it sparked off the Patchwork Play membership and a whole new website!

It’s designed to help you:

shape your ideas

turn them into something real

and take those first small steps forward

If that’s been sitting at the back of your mind for a while, it might be a lovely place to begin.

You can take a look here:

A quiet reminder

For me, this feature wasn’t really about being “spotlighted”, although I am chuffed to bits about it.

It was a reminder that:

steady, thoughtful work counts

Even when it doesn’t feel loud.

Even when it’s one post at a time.

That's like our sewing - steady action still gets good results like finished projects.

Right, I’m off back into the yurt…

there’s always something gently growing in there.
